This process results to a burning pain close to the heart hence the name heart burn. This condition has nothing to do with the heart.

The heartburn refers to the process where the churning gases mixed with food are pushed back into the esophagus creating a severe burning sensation on the throat lining.

Heartburn and indigestion are related but are two different entities. If you have indigestion but the food is not pushed back into the esophagus, the patient cannot be described to be suffering from heartburn. The acid reflux may be contained in the stomach and the intestinal region which is medically described as indigestion.

Heartburns have been known to be only disgusting but with no serious side effects. Indigestion causes corrosion of stomach lining causing ulcers. Increased stress, anxiety and the difference of time taken in eating food are all contributing factors to food indigestion that in turn can result to heartburn.
